Orange the World: Shining a Light on Violence against Women
In light of Orange the World, the (inter)national campaign to end violence against women and girls, Omnium and the Sexual Safety Programme invite you to an open conversation about how we experience sexual safety — on the streets, in public spaces, and in daily life.

The campaign takes place every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, until 10 December, Human Rights Day. Orange the World draws attention to the fact that violence against women and girls happens everywhere: on the street, during nights out, at work, in cyberspace, in sports clubs, universities, and homes. It takes many forms — from sexist comments to sexual harassment to femicide.

Let's talk about it 

With the recent news about femicide, street harassment, and rape in the Netherlands, many of us are reflecting on what safety means — and how it shapes the way we move through public spaces. Maybe you’ve felt unsafe or watched a friend feel unsafe. Or maybe you’ve become more aware of how your presence can affect others on the street, even when you mean no harm.

This evening provides a space to talk about those experiences — how they impact us all, and how we can respond, together.

Green Dot in Action: UM’s First Day
The Green Dot approach starts from a simple idea: every red dot represents a moment of harm — being catcalled, followed on the street, or touched without consent. But we can all create Green Dots — small or big actions to stop sexual violence as a bystander or to show that it’s never okay. After a red dot, it means stepping in, checking in, or asking others for help. You can also act when there is no red dot, setting a norm: showing through your words or actions that sexual violence is not acceptable, and that we all should do our part. Every Green Dot contributes to culture change.
