Carmen Bedia

Carmen Bedia is a tenured researcher at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC) in Barcelona specializing in the fields of environmental toxicology and chemometrics. Her research focuses on investigating the health impacts of human exposure to environmental pollutants. She employs physiologically relevant cell cultures across various exposure scenarios and evaluates their biological responses through cell biology techniques, lipidomics, and multivariate data analysis methods. Carmen is leading DINAMIQS, a national project in Spain aimed at exploring the effects of air pollution from diverse sources on lung and brain health. This project encompasses a comprehensive characterization of environmental samples, the use of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to provide information on chemical hazards while eliminating the need for animal testing, and the implementation of advanced chemometric strategies.
