Jildau Bouwman
Senior scientist at TNO and professor at Leiden University
Jildau Bouwman leads the strategy of the “digital health technology” program of TNO, that focusses on helping individuals to make a healthy choice using digital solutions.
Appointed to the Remote Health Monitoring Chair at Leiden University at the LACDR in the Metabolomics and Analytics Centre. She investigates how digital solutions can contribute to better health care at home. Home care is often more comfortable, effective and takes the burden off the health care system.
Jildau Bouwman joined TNO in 2008 and works within the systems biology team. The goal of her work is to improve public and personal health and use digital solutions where relevant. She focusses on omics data interpretation (transcriptomics and metabolomics), data analysis (including AI) and data management. This requires data from the whole system (omics data) and from multiple sources (wearables, human studies and hospital data) and AI that is explainable. Her vision is that for the reuse of data a rich set of meta data is crucial. She is one of the driving forces behind the development of the Phenotype database, as system developed to store and reuse nutritional (meta)data. In addition, she is one developers of the FAIR principles.
