BIO
Dr Romain Carron, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Medico-Surgical Unit of Epilepsy Surgery and Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgery at Marseille University Hospital (La Timone), France. He completed his general neurosurgical training in Grenoble and subsequently specialized in functional and stereotactic neurosurgery.
His clinical practice primarily focuses on neuromodulation, including deep brain stimulation for movement disorders and epilepsy, as well as vagus nerve stimulation. He also has extensive experience with invasive electrophysiological recordings using stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) in adult epilepsy, and with Gamma Knife radiosurgery.
Dr Carron’s research interests center on the mechanisms of action of deep brain stimulation and closed-loop neuromodulation in Parkinson’s disease, as well as vagus nerve stimulation in epilepsy. His work further encompasses signal processing of intracerebral SEEG recordings and the analysis of stereotactic accuracy in robot-assisted procedures. More recently, he has developed an interest in specialized applications of artificial intelligence in clinical neuroscience and temporal interference stimulation.
Dr Carron has authored or co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and has a H-index of 46.
