DESTINATION

As you all might know by now, we will travel to the far North, to Lapland! Lapland is a huge area that extends over the far norths of Norway, Sweden, Finland and a small part of Russia. 

We will stay in the Finnish part of Lapland in a village called Saariselkä. 
Saariselkä is the oldest ski resort of Finland, located in the beautiful Urkho Kekkonen National Park. It is an impressive and rugged backdrop for winter activities and experiences; a great destination for our trip! Saariselkä is located on the Lappish Highlands, 250 km above the Artic Circle, not far from Ivalo Airport. 

The area is the centre of the Sami culture. It is a popular destination for the Finns, who mainly come here for the cross-country network of more than 200 km (in high season) and the typical Finnish nightlife. Here you can enjoy good food, sing karaoke and dance to live music until the late hours. 

The ski resort of Saariselkä has 15 slopes and 5 ski lifts, spread over 2 hills with different difficulty levels. There is also a Freestyle Park for snowboarders and there are many kilometers of well- maintained cross-country trails in the area.

The average temperature in March is between -5°C and -12°C in Saariselkä. It is nice that Finland has a continental climate; the air is more dry than in Belgium and therefore feels less cold than the same temperature in Belgium. The magical environment, the wide range of activities and the relaxed atmosphere make Saariselkä a perfect destination for the real Lapland expierence. And that's what we are going to expierence!
