Creating Life With Courage: Managing Our Fears
Workshop
11.00 - 13:00 h
Where? EDLAB - Garden Room, Tapijnkazerne 23
Workshop by Christiaan Caanen, Global Young Leaders
After this workshop you'll walk away with more courage and tools to manage your fears. Each of us is born courageous. When we're kids we climb trees without fear of falling, try new things without fear of failing, speak our truth without fear of getting judged, and love without fear of getting hurt. Through some of the lesson we learn while growing up, many of us learn to let go of this courage and give fear the upperhand. This starts to affect our mental health, feelings, and the decisions we make. Creating our life from fear is not something wrong but it does give you a totally different life experience then creating from courage. During this workshop, you'll learn more about where fear comes from, why FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real, and you'll learn practical tools to manage your fears and turn them into courage

How Are You Really?
Workshop
15:30 - 17.30 h
Where? EDLAB - Garden Room, Tapijnkazerne 23
Workshop by Julika Salb, Student & Career Counsellor at SBE
* “I think part of what's happening right now is that a lot more people, have a lot more contact, but still feel a lot lonelier.” (Student, 18 years old)
* “Everyone around me seemed to be happy. And I just wasn't. And that stressed me out because I thought to myself: What's wrong with me?” (Student, 21 years old)
* I think for me the biggest, longest, most emotional challenge is probably this process with myself. To find myself, to be satisfied with myself, to accept myself, to make my own thoughts and point of view, my own opinions. To be aware of them, to reflect on them and to share them with others. (Student, 22 years old)
Can you identity with these students? Then this workshop might be right for you!
The years at university are often described as “the time of your life”, but honestly, they are often rather messy, rocky years. Trying to balance university, building relationships and planning our future, while constantly questioning: Who am I? What is my place in this world? Am I accepted just the way I am? On this journey we sometimes feel alone with our questions and concerns, as it seems that others are just doing fine.
In an open, confidential, and authentic atmosphere, we will intentionally slow down, take time for self-reflection, talk about life challenges and share own experiences with others. Some useful tools and questions from systemic counselling and positive psychology will guide us through these two hours to truly re-connect with ourselves and with others and to realise: We are not alone.
I Feel Good!
Workshop for employees
16.00 - 17.00 h
Where? Online
Workshop by Petra Suurmond (HR advisor) & Daniëlle Townsend (Learning & Development Advisor)
Everybody wants to feel good, but how to increase your happiness or what to do to feel fit as a fiddle. People who feel good are healthier, more creative and more productive, and they live longer. Reason enough to start striving for happiness! In this workshop we start together with a 1 hour online meeting on Friday, followed by a daily training session you do by yourself (approximately 1 hour a day) and an online wrap up together on Wednesday. It is community based learning, it means we learn together en learn from each other. A nice way to get to know other UMstaff and to share experiences and get new insights on this topic.
Be fine as a fettle, get into the right mindset and take to life like a fish to water!
See you there! Danielle & Petra

Yin Yoga & Yoga Nidra
Workshop
17.00 - 18.15 h
Where? UM Sports - Body & Mind Studio
Workshop by Ilona Wijnands
Most of us are used to doing a lot of “things” to feel alive. In primary and elementary school we don’t get educated about slowing down or taking naps. But what if you can feel MORE alive by doing LESS? This is the field of Being in Doing. Due to the integration of yoga, meditation and silence, into our daily day life, we can make this change. The more we slow down, the more we reconnect with our true nature, emotions and feelings.
Yin yoga is a gift for those who are looking for a more in-depth and slow-paced yoga practise where poses are held for an extended period, usually around 3-5 minutes or even longer. It is a practise for those who are longing for more rest and ritualising stilness into the daily busy yang life style. During this 75 minutes you will be showered with yin yoga and loads of deep breaths. Plus I will guide you through a Yoga Nidra session!
Yoga Nidra, also know as 'yogic sleep,' is a guided meditation practice that induces deep relaxation and conscious awareness. You lay down in a comfortable position and follow my voice, gradually moving your attention through different parts of the body and entering a state between wakefulness and sleep. The goal of Yoga Nidra is to achieve a profound level of relaxation, reduce stress, and even tap into the subconscious mind.
Your university journey becomes not just a pursuit of knowledge, but a voyage of self-discovery and tranquility through the practice of Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra.
We have yoga mats available but you can also bring your own. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing, bring a cozy blanket / sweater and socks to relax even more during the session.

If you’re seeking ways to navigate and conquer the fear of failure, join the next Student-Meet at EDLAB! Fellow students will talk about their experiences, share tips and answer questions.
