Summer School on Affective Neuroscience
Summer Course on Fear, Anxiety, Obsessions & Trauma
1-5 July 2024 - Università di Firenze, Florence, Italy
Anxiety, depression and related affective disorders are the most prevalent mental health disorders worldwide, but the underlying mechanisms of emotions are also the least understood by modern science. Virtually all psychiatric disorders are characterized, or at least accompanied, by some degree of emotional disturbance. Affective neuroscience studies brain mechanisms underlying emotional behaviour. Affective neuroscience increasingly contributes to the insight in the underlying biological mechanisms of psychological therapy and can thus drive the improvement of current therapies and development of new ones. These developments in the field illustrate the need for interdisciplinary and translational approaches to come to a deeper understanding of emotions.
The Summer School on Affective Neuroscience provides an education in the specialized field of affective neuroscience. The overall aim of the Summer School is getting closer to understanding the mechanisms behind human psychopathology. The Summer School comprises two courses: one on Fear, Anxiety, Obsessions & Trauma, and the other on Mood, Aggression & Attraction. The courses aim at an in-depth analysis of the latest developments in the field of affective neuroscience. The teaching format is a stimulating combination of lectures and workshops.
The Summer School on Affective Neuroscience is an ideal opportunity for clinicians, both psychologists and medical doctors, and young scientists to update their knowledge and expertise on the fundamentals of affective disorders.
European Certificate in Affective Neuroscience
For each of the courses that was completed successfully the participants will receive a certificate of attendance. Upon completion of both Summer Courses of the Summer School participants will receive the European Certificate in Affective Neuroscience from the Maastricht University.
