Code of Conduct
Our Shared Commitment
The Benelux Metabolomics Days brings together researchers, trainees, industry partners, and other stakeholders from across the life sciences to exchange ideas, present research, and build collaborations. Our goal is to create a stimulating, inclusive, and respectful environment in which all participants feel welcome and able to contribute fully.
This Code of Conduct reflects our shared responsibility to foster a positive conference experience for everyone.
Expected Behaviour
All participants are expected to:
- Treat others with respect and professionalism, regardless of career stage, background, identity, or institutional affiliation.
- Engage constructively in scientific discussion, valuing diverse perspectives and approaches.
- Communicate thoughtfully and collegially, both during formal sessions (talks, posters, panels) and informal interactions (breaks, social events).
- Be mindful of power dynamics, particularly in interactions involving students, early-career researchers, or other junior participants.
- Respect personal boundaries, including during social events and networking activities.
- Follow venue rules and safety guidelines, and cooperate with conference organizers and staff.
Creating a Welcoming Environment
We aim for a conference atmosphere that is:
- Inclusive and supportive
- Open to scientific debate without personal attack
- Free from intimidation, exclusion, or hostility
Participants are encouraged to help maintain this atmosphere by being attentive to how their words and actions may be perceived by others.
Unacceptable Behaviour
Behaviours that undermine a respectful and inclusive environment are not consistent with the values of this meeting. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Discriminatory, harassing, or demeaning conduct or language
- Unwelcome sexual attention or inappropriate physical contact
- Intimidation, sustained disruption of talks or discussions, or deliberate exclusion
- Abusive, offensive, or derogatory comments related to personal characteristics
If Something Feels Wrong
If you experience or witness behaviour that does not align with this Code of Conduct, you are encouraged to speak up or seek support.
You may contact a member of the conference organizing committee in person or via the designated contact details provided in the conference materials.
Reports will be handled discreetly, respectfully, and confidentially, with the primary goal of ensuring safety and restoring a positive conference environment.
Our Approach to Resolution
The organisers’ first priority is to support affected individuals and de-escalate situations constructively. When necessary, the organizing committee may take appropriate action to protect participants and the integrity of the meeting.
A Shared Responsibility
By participating in the Benelux Metabolomics Days, all attendees agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and to contribute actively to a conference culture defined by respect, curiosity, and scientific excellence.
We thank you for helping make this meeting a welcoming and inspiring event for all.
