Melanie Bailey
Biosketch
Melanie Bailey is Professor in the Physical Sciences of Life at King’s College London and Professor of Analytical Science at University of Surrey. She has expertise in “omics”, biomarker discovery and imaging. She directs SEISMIC, a BBSRC national facility for spatially resolved single and sub-cellular “omics” and is building new instrumentation for multimodal imaging at the UK National Ion Beam Centre. She is also Academic Director for the London Metallomics Facility. She is a member of the international advisory board for The Ion Beam Analysis conference series, International Nuclear Microprobe conference series and the Bragg Centre for Materials Research. She is a Trustee of the Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund and ran the London Marathon to raise money for Analytical Science in 2024, gaining a Guiness World Record in 2025 as World’s Fastest Cell. She is Editor in Chief of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s longest running journal “Analyst”.
