BioSB PhD retreat 2022

YoungCB (ISCB Regional Student Group Netherlands) is pleased to invite you to the in person BioSB Ph.D. Retreat 2022 in the afternoon of June 27 (13.00 - 18.00) preceding the BioSB conference. The retreat will be held in Lunteren at the Congrescentrum De Werelt.

The retreat is welcome to all Ph.Ds, master students and young scientists in the field of bioinformatics, systems and computational biology.

Theme
The theme of the PhD retreat this year is Future of Science. There will be an interactive panel where we will discuss some varied topics/questions that you must have come across as a Ph.D. student, such as:

●    How do we evaluate a Ph.D. candidate? More specifically, what is important for a Ph.D./young scientist to be impactful? Is it based purely on the papers they publish and the impact factor of the journals they appear in? Or should we also take into account their alternative contributions to science such as datasets/tools/public outreach.
●    What is your opinion on the gender bias in the scientific world where informatics plays an important role, which was until now considered by some to be a male dominated area. Do you think male and female Ph.D. students have equal opportunities?

During the Ph.D. retreat, we will be discussing these topics and more along with our panellists and the audience alike, so if these topics intrigue you, join us at the Ph.D. retreat!

The retreat is sponsored by the BioSB research school. We encourage all PhD students and young researchers in the fields of computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology and related fields to attend this annual retreat to build a network with fellow young peers in the Netherlands.

Dinner
The retreat will be followed by dinner, where we will walk through the beautiful forests of de Veluwe and get some nice pizza in the city centre of Lunteren.
