MediaEval Workshop 2012The MediaEval 2012 workshop brings together the participants of the MediaEval 2012 benchmarking initiative to report on their findings, discuss their approaches and learn from each other. The MediaEval workshop will be held Thursday & Friday, 4 & 5 October 2012 at Santa Croce in Fossabanda in Pisa Italy, a medieval convent that has been converted into a hotel. The workshop fee is €215. (Participants registering before 15 September 2012 will receive a €25 discount.) The workshop includes presentations from MediaEval participants and invited talks. It also includes a "Practioners" session in which projects, research sites and industry groups that are involved with MediaEval-related tasks or technology present and overview of their work and their ideas and make suggestions for tasks to offer in MediaEval 2013. Participants are asked to make their own hotel reservations by directly contacting the hotel of their choice. We are great fans of Santa Croce in Fossabanda, but we would like to remind you that it is a medieval convent and has some characteristics that some people consider to be drawbacks (e.g., Internet access sometimes unstable, drafty, convent bell in the morning, not all rooms have an en suite bathroom, no on-site restaurant). You may prefer to stay in a different hotel. For example, Hotel Republica Marinara is relatively close by. Getting to the workshopSanta Croce in Fossabanda (Piazza Santa Croce 5, 56125 Pisa, Italy), the venue of the MediaEval 2012 workshop, is relatively easy to reach. It is a 20-minute walk from the main train station in Pisa. You can also get a taxi from the train station to the hotel. Map showing location of Santa Croce in Fossabanda The Pisa Airport is located relatively close to the city and a taxi from the airport to the city center should cost you 6-8 Euros, cf. http://wikitravel.org/en/Pisa Alternatively you can fly to Firenze (i.e., Florence) and take a taxi or bus to the main train station in Firenze and take the train to Pisa from there.
