Welcome

Welcome to the event website of World Usability Day 2014: Engagement.

Join us on November 13, World Usability Day 2014 at Designlab, University of Twente, where you will participate in and enjoy an effective mix of presentations and workshops on the theme of (user) engagement.
This annual symposium gives you insights into how the worlds of design practice and research come together to engage users during the development and use of products and services. You will also discover the latest usability methods and tools, concerning engagement.

This year's theme is Engagement. Technology, products and services are usable when they engage people. The World Usability Day 2014 programme focuses on Engagement in a user context.

User Experience Design (UX) drives user engagement in many ways. Besides simply making something easy to use, we consider areas like emotional design, gamification, delight, and persuasive technology. Users are increasingly stimulated to engage across different platforms through device-agnostic UX. Intelligent user interfaces, when effective, result in long-term user engagement. Good UX design promotes engagement between users - whether it’s about community building, project collaboration, or crowd-sourcing. Ultimately, an engaging user experience builds user trust and brand loyalty - a truly rewarding result.

The keynote speaker is Pelle Ehn, Professor at the School of Arts & Communication, Malmö University. He lectures about Democratic Design Engagement.

The costs for participating in the Symposium are € 75 (students € 15) if you register by or before October 31This includes the presentations, participation in two workshops, lunch and refreshments. From November 1, the costs for participation will be € 100 (students € 25).
